Like the curate's egg, it has proved to be a bit of a mixed bag. Don't get me wrong, the app is still brilliant. But in the free version some great features have been moved to the paid version and some of the issues that bugged the previous version have been addressed. So now I have created a tutorial that shows you all the features of the new free version of Educreations. I have to say that if an app is worth updating to the paid version I will often suggest that a school does this. However the biggest draw back for me in suggesting that schools pay for the Educreations premium service is the price. Currently it is $124.99 per teacher per year! Now that does allow a single teacher to register 40 students, but even so, that is a lot of money for an app. I am not sure whether this fee is US$ or NZ$ either way it is a lot.
I am not giving up on Educreations, it is still a great tool for learning, but I would implore them to consider their eye wateringly high premium annual fee. I think that if they considered $20 per teacher per year, they would get a lot of schools purchasing a licence for their entire school. I would certainly advocate that kind of investment at that kind of per classroom price, even if it is in US$.
So here it is the updated Educreations tutorial:
