True - it's the best magazine we've got in NZ. There's so much to read and lots of ideas for supporting elearning in the classroom.

The big issue for me is these remote communities like Haast (and the Chatham Islands) need these connections so much. We need to be ensuring a first network exists before investing in second networks around the country. It shouldn't be the fact that there are only a small number of kids there v the cost so its not funded. The whole community could use these facilities and e.g. health had started to.
From a wider prespective, if we want people to be attracted to live in these small communities and serve the needs of visitors (emergency services etc) and manage the environment (DOC) etc. these communities need futureproofed infrastructure. Have a look on the map. Haast is approximately half way between this country's major tourism attractions, the Glaciers and Wanaka/Queenstown (4-5hr drive between these)- it's location is strategically important to New Zealand, particularly tourism.

Julie and I are sitting in a Hamilton Hotel room captured by imagining what your Layer Cake e-Learning pedagogy might be David.

And whilst I am focusing on how you might support these multiple levels of sweet baked dessert with templates, resources and rubrics etc, Julie is thinking about the type of layer cake you have in mind - are you thinking more banoffee pie like or is it a tiramisu kind of thing.

We have rejected the sticky pudding because it is too atomised in structure - all those randomly distributed raisins - to do justice to e-learning outcomes that might be represented in levels.

Do give us a clue.
